The Spring 2010 scholarship winners are Nathan Heeringa and Kirsten Woodard.

The fall 2007 scholarship winners are Cody Maxwell and Sabrena Gneiting.

    Volunteer
Each year the Reindeer Research Program selects several volunteers to assist with field work. This work takes place primarily on the Seward Peninsula, though some work in Fairbanks is plausible. The winter field season typically runs from January to February, depending on specific projects. Our summer field season usually begins in June and continues through early July. Activities might include vaccinating reindeer for brucellosis, collecting herd information, assisting with meat/carcass studies, participating in range surveys, locating and recovering radio and satellite collars, or assisting in the collection and processing of samples for a variety of research projects.

Conditions on the Seward Peninsula can be challenging, regardless of the season. Severe winter conditions and short daylight hours prevail during the winter months, while summer brings heat, rain, mosquitoes, dust and more. However, for the hardy individual who is interested in a unique experience, it can be very rewarding. We are always on the lookout for hardworking, flexible, motivated individuals. A background in wildlife, natural resources, animal science, or pre-veterinary medicine is helpful.

Volunteers who are selected are responsible for their own transportation to and from Alaska. In an effort to make the experience worthwhile for both parties, we typically require a two week commitment from volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering, please send a short letter of introduction and intent to fyrrp@uaf.edu.
